Exhibition: Kenya burning

The GoDown gallery will be hosting the “Kenya Burning Exhibition” from Monday 30th January 2012 for two months. The Exhibition revisits the gruesome images of the 2008 post election violence, lest we forget. For more information on the exhibit:

The GoDown is also preparing for its first of several convenings on the theme NAIROBI- an exploration of its origins, highlighting how culture and the arts have, and continue to contribute to the formation and life of the city. A group of 20 participants will kick start this conversation on Monday 30th January 2012.

Painting Exhibition: souvenir d’ Afrique - by Bezazel Mfashingabo

As we gladly continue to expand our vision for Africa art we now bring you the first Democratic Republic of Congo arist Bezazel Mfashingabo. 

It is quit had to say the riches found in the beautiful Afrique, its people, landscape and people thus not forgetting its rich and diversified culture. And with this you will always find some thing simple for even complex to carry back home from the beautiful continent of Africa.

He is an artist who finds his pride for being an Africa within its Nature and beautiful things surrounding him.

The theme of this exhibition is ‘Souvenir d’ Afrique’ which mean souvenir from Africa

This is a matatu project by Dennis Muraguri and it started on the 13^th of this month (January 2012) and goes 

all the way through to February 22^nd 2012

Exhibition: Grassroots upgraded

This is Slum’s TV’s biggest art project this far. The exhibition will feel Nairobi Gallery with installations, photographs and video works. All this displays will represent a unique perspective of life in the Nairobi’s Eastland, challenging the stereotypes about life in the marginal areas of town and revealing a dynamic and bustling urban life.

Just like any other exhibitions, this one has a theme too and that is to raise  questions on how Nairobi is actually represented. More so focusing on the image the city of Nairobi has and how it can be corrected or for that matter be shaped. Questions on who exactly is creating this big image, and what is this relationship between the image and power. However, the Camera used, “LOMO”, brings their own uniqueness and aesthetic: improvised, spontaneous and unconventional expressions. At the opening there will be a corresponding catalogue which will be launched.

Exhibitions: Eye on Animations

Kuona Trust invites you to: Eyes on Animation
this is a series of animations by Andrew Njoroge, Patrick Mukabi, Peterson Kamwathi & Allan Musumbi.

This is a joint conceptual project bringing together artists using new media as a means of expression, with the aim of exploring the possibilities of animation as an art form in the Kenyan context. It will be an attempt to introduce local artists and audiences to this art form.

The long term plan is to encourage local artists to participate in global new media events such as “The One Minutes” and “Documentation”.
During the exhibition, the four artists will hold a public workshop on simple animation that will involve artists & media students.

Exhibition: “The Girl Art Project”

As from November 1^st to 8^th 2011 the Girl art project will be on at the Godown Art Centre. The exhibition is an inspiration from, experience, presence and will. The exhibition will feature art work from three female artists: Rummy Ireri, Kawira Mwirichia and Shillah Mombo.

Eye contact painting exhibition

From November 12^th to December 12^th 2011 there will be a painting exhibition at Banana Hill Art Gallery.

The exhibition will start from 10am to 12noon that is from Monday to Saturday and from 12noon to 6mp on Sundays
