Online media: communication and public relation Manager


Our client is a leading brand in the IT / Online sector. Well back with a rapidly growing brand and customer base, the company has a strong presence in the East African market.

The company has access to highly useful and positive business and social information, trends, data and resources that are in demand by a range of consumer, business and government readers.

The primary objectives

  • To develop, implement and manage communications programs and activities that effectively describe, publicise and promote the organisation, its services and its impact on the community.
  • Reporting to Head of Marketing, you will also be responsible for internal and external communications and ensure that communications programs & activities are in line with company strategy.
  • Your role will ensure that the company and its specialist information is well covered in specialist, national and regional press. 
  • There will be occasional travel within East Africa.

Skills and experience


  • Develop an annual and communications strategy that aligns with the company strategy and subsequent quarterly/monthly work-plans for implementation
  • Attend interviews and promote various industry reports/findings/intelligence in the press including radio and television and online where applicable
  • Creation of communications materals (e.g. press releases, editorials, press packs, etc)
  • Management of related suppliers
  • Manage budget, ad hoc contractual/casual staff and any direct reports
  • Weekly/monthly progress reporting in relation to set out  plans
  • Organise and manage regular Events in the business community particularly focusing on the NGO, Banking & Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology verticals. 
  • PR activation to secure local and regional coverage
  • Developing and fostering high quality Media relationships and managing media enquiries
  • Be the spokesperson of the brand

  • Willing to be in the media as often as the job necessitates
  • Experience in developing  successful marketing corporate partnership relations
  • People management skills including target setting and performance monitoring
  • Strong, planning & organisational skills as well as interpersonal and communication skills

Educational qualifications

  • Ideally a related undergraduate degree
  • At least 5 years experience in a communications, PR, media or journalism role with significant strategy experience
  • A proven track record and excellent demonstrable understanding of the media/PR environment in Kenya and excellent contacts/links in the sector
